A tribute to the sculptural works of the past, using clay to transform it into ceramic. Pellegrino’s contemporary gods are colored in the traditional shades of Sicilian ceramics. The collection opens with Batman, a hero whose powers are not innate, but created and constructed using science and technology. The artist chooses to create the mysterious face of Batman. With his sculptural work, Pellegrino emphasizes the humanity of this hero and the artificiality of his powers.
The artist’s approach to the classical is one that pays particular attention to Greek and Roman antiquity as his own cultural roots, where Sicily becomes the primary energy of his work. In his research, we find a type of poetry with a lesser degree of suffering, unlike other contemporary artists who look to and draw inspiration from the classical. His works are never poignant or melancholic, but on the contrary can be cheerful and colorful. To this poetic vivacity they add the refinement of refined cultural references.
