Virgin Gotham

Daniele Oldani creates an elegant and provocative fusion of pop culture and Italian Christian tradition, transforming one of Christianity’s most sacred symbols, the Virgin Mary, into a Gotham Virgin. This figure merges divinity and superhero, sacred and profane, raising a crucial question: will the one who saves us be a divinity or a superhero? This is the artist’s reflection, inviting the audience to question the contemporary need for salvation and new forms of faith and hope.

Alongside her, a cherub resembling the Joker completes this disturbing and fascinating vision: a little angel whose mad and disturbing gaze represents psychosis, chaos, and the loss of innocence. A figure that subverts expectations, fusing angelic iconography with the aesthetic of the villain, and who makes us uneasy, forcing us to reconsider the boundaries between good and evil.
